The Puma Den: Days 1 & 2

Day 1-2

We have just left Dublin and on our way around the country. We have just stopped in the county Wicklow to see a few historic sites. I want to see a church and the Historic Wicklow’s Gaol, which is an Irish jail. To be honest, I just wanted to get my mother to stop driving – she is atrocious! I can understand a second to realize you have to drive on the other side of the road, but honestly after getting over that it’s no worse than Jersey.

We might continue driving on after we get some lunch. I feel like we’ll probably stay the night in Waterford, which is in the very southern tip of the country. That being if I am silly enough to get back in the car with my mom, or talk her into letting me drive. I think the game plan is to work our way around the coast.

As far as Dublin is concerned, I would very much consider a move to that city. I was even offered a job as a waiter if I can score a Visa. If anyone has any knowledge or friends that can hook that up, get at me. Anyway, great city, no real organization to the street due to it originally being a medieval city, but once you have a map and realize where the street signs are, you are golden. It threw me for a second because the street signs are on the sides of buildings and not on stoplight posts like in America. So if you ever visit Dublin, look on the side of buildings for the signs; it will make you look like you know what you are doing.

So we got into the city around 8:30 a.m. and did a bit of exploring, wandered to Trinity College and saw The Book of Kells, which by the way, I have found that the people who lived centuries ago still had better hand writing than I do now, which isn’t saying too much. But take my word for it, it looks phenomenal.

From Trinity College we met up with a local of Dublin in a thing called, “City of a Thousand Welcomes.” We met up with this chap named Andy. He showed us some of the great sites around Dublin, we sat at a pub and had a few pints of locally brewed beer, and he gave us advice on our game plan for our travels. If you decide to take a trip to Dublin, I highly recommend this. Check them out online at www.cityofathousandwelcomes.com. It’s all free, including the pint and some really good insight.

We then looked at a very nice free art exhibit as well as the Irish Writers Museum. As a writer, I had to check out some of the things they had on Irish writers. We then had a very nice lunch at a restaurant  recommended by our mate who met us for a pint and tour earlier. It was called Chapter One. Great food, bit pricy, but we did drink wine and I am sure that played into it.

We wandered some more until we made it to Christ Church. We were able to wander the entire church and go down into the crypts. The cathedral really is beautiful and has some epic history. They say at one time a throne from the crown of thorns was kept their as well as some of the milk from the Virgin Mary.

Made it back to change and then go back out for a bit of dinner and some pints of Guinness. Caught an early bedtime but couldn’t sleep because the jet lag was killing me.

The next day we wandered around the Temple Bar area. Nothing too impressive that day, as we were thinking of making our departure for the countryside. I did book a hostel for the night before I fly to Germany. That should make for some epic stories as well.

My next blog should be something more about the countryside and the things outside of the city.

As for now, enjoy life, keep reading and have adventures,
